The Berklee College of Music in Boston, which is the world’s largest contemporary music school, runs a broad series of intensive summer camps in music, theatre and drama. Programs range from one week to full summer, and include offerings in performance, songwriting, music production and dance and theatre.

Berklee summer programs will give you a taste of Berklee—the preeminent institute of contemporary music and the performing arts—on the stage, in the studio, and in the classroom.

With programs in music performance, theater, dance, music production, songwriting, opera, and music business, there is a Berklee summer program for you whether you are in middle school, high school, college, or beyond.

If you are interested in studying music in college, and especially if you’re interested in studying at Berklee, this camp could be a great choice for you:

Over 30 percent of Berklee Summer Programs students go on to attend Berklee as undergraduate students, so it’s no surprise that many of our past summer students have forged successful careers in the music industry. While it would be impossible to represent the complete scope, the individuals below should give you a good idea of the many remarkable things our alumni have gone on to achieve.

How do I expand this narrative arc? If both music and history are in your narrative arc, consider building on this interest with one of the following:

  • Head to the “other Berkeley” and take an amazing summer course at U.C. Berkeley entitled Music in American Cultures

  • If your school offers the ability to do an independent study or a National History Day project, consider doing a research project on famous musicians influences on culture or conflicts, or even one of these historical figures, using some material from in the letters you transcribe. Note: these letters are Primary Sources for historical research purposes which makes any such research project even more impressive!

  • Consider doing a community impact project that involves music or folk music, like doing a nostalgia playlist for seniors in a home. Music from your youth has proved to be of huge therapeutic benefit to seniors and a project like this could have a real impact.

  • Spend your next summer learning more about music business at the Clive Davis School of Music at Tisch.

HOT TIP: This is a rigorous summer program with high admissions standards. It’s definitely not for the music dilettante, but for the right teen it could really elevate your music and improve your chances of attending a performing arts school for college. Also keep in mind that many colleges without cornerstone drama and music programs love to have serious artists and musicians in their student bodies. Attendance at a summer program like Berklee will emphasize your serious musical credentials if you choose to apply to a broader liberal arts program or large university.
