Cambridge Summer Program

Cambridge Summer Program_Rect.jpg

This is a super selective summer program based at Cambridge University in the UK. It’s the first EVER offered by Cambridge University itself, with Cambridge professors themselves teaching it. VERY rigorous with a small number of international students from 8-10 countries. The 2019 program accepted just 5 students from the U.S!!

Expect to be debating Wittgenstein philosophy in the context of alien forms of life, or cognitive and neural basis of rationality. You will live in one of the Cambridge colleges and write a research paper as a culminating thesis. Hard but definitely something to fire up your intellectual imagination

How do I expand this narrative arc?

  • There are a number of rigorous social science and humanities focused summer programs at top American Universities. For example, check out the Stanford Summer Arts Institute. Just keep in mind that many summer programs on university campuses are not run by the school and have light admissions standards. If you want to get the most out of your time and money you should take care to choose a selective program.

  • Check out the Kids Philosophy Slam.

  • Consider submitting your research paper (or a slimmed down version of it) for publication (for example, check out The Concord Review and Curieux Academic Journal).

HOT TIP: This is an interesting way to have an academically intense summer that also expands your horizons. Keep in mind that college admissions officer may not be aware that a newer program like the one at Cambridge is both rigorous and selective. The best way for you to ensure that you get the most of of your time and hard work is to bring home and continue whatever great work you’ve started at Cambridge.
