Girls Learn International UN Delegate

Girls Learn International (GLI) is program of the Feminist Majority Foundation and it empowers and educates middle and high school students to advocate for human rights, equality, and universal education in the U.S. and around the world. Student-to-student, and student-to-parent, GLI is building a movement of informed advocates for universal girls’ education and a new generation of leaders and activists for social change.

There are 3 main ways to get involved:

  1. You can start a chapter in your local community. Applications are due twice a year and the application process is straightforward and easy. GLI holds monthly meetings during the school year for each Regional Area. Students from Chapters within the Region discuss Chapter-related issues, plan events, discuss advocacy and fundraising strategies, and network with each other.

The NYC, San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles Regions meet through a combination of in-person meeting and webinars, and the Eastern, Western and International regions meet through webinar only. Although it is not mandatory, we encourage at least one member from each GLI Chapter to attend the Regional meetings.

  2. You can also be elected to the Student Advisory Board. Chapters in each Regional Area elect students to the Student Advisory Board (SAB). Student Advisory Board officers:

    • provide valuable feedback to GLI staff

    • help plan and facilitate Regional Meetings

    • organize special events for the Region

  3. You can be a United Nations CSW Delegate and be part of the delegation of students that attends the UN Commission on the Status of Women! As a member of the GLI delegation, we will develop advocacy platforms that center the intersectional voices of girls and young people around the globe. Our delegation will meet with key CSW actors, leaders, and organizers to make sure that youth play an essential role in the outcomes of the CSW.

The GLI delegation will include participation in regular webinar training, team meetings, virtual events and conversations leading up to and during the CSW, the development of GLI Advocacy Platform to shape the outcomes of the CSW, and receipt of a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the CSW. If you are interested in helping to shape global policies for gender equality and empowerment, then submit your application to participate in the CSW.
