NASA Student Art Competition

Teens who are interested in both art and science have a unique opportunity in this prestigious national competition sponsored by NASA!

Here’s a description from a past competition:

“NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia is inviting students in grades K-12 to creatively visualize NASA’s science, technology, aeronautical and human exploration activities in the 2022 NASA Langley Art Contest, using the theme “Drawn to Explore.” The contest is open to all children grades K-12 attending public, private, parochial and homeschools who are residents of the United States.

In your art, we want to see how you take your print or digital artwork from brainstorming to completion related to NASA and its missions – whether its ways for humans to go beyond low-Earth orbit into deep space, technology to study Earth and its climate systems, aerial vehicles to take humans to new heights in the sky, or icons to emulate in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields of study.”

How do I expand this narrative arc? There are so many great ways to combine interests in science and art. Here’s an interesting way to get community impact credit for it - link up with your school art department and sponsor a competition to use art to raise an awareness of an environmental issue (think: storm drain art! or Project Backboard). There are infinite possibilities for a creative kid!
