Cubes in Space
Are you fascinated by how space affects the laws of biology, chemistry and physics? Are you interested in design, engineering or research science? Propose and design an experiment for launch into space and advance your prospects (and advance scientific understanding in the realm of space travel)!!
Cubes in Space is a one-of-a-kind global competition, offered at no cost, for students 11-18 years of age to design and propose experiments to launch into space or a near space environment on a NASA sounding rocket and zero-pressure scientific balloon. Students can participate but must be guided through the process by an adult sponsor, usually a teacher, who will gently assist with building the experiment and corresponding with Cubes in Space. This is a great example of an opportunity to get real-world experience with the designing, building and testing experiments.
How do I get started? Visit the website for Cubes in Space.
How do I expand this narrative arc? If science and space are in your narrative arc think about supplementing this larger project with one of the smaller science (or space)-based opportunities. For example:
Send another science experiment to the International Space Station with Dream Up.
Diversify your space creds when you compete to build the best International Space Settlement.
Build on your space design creativity when you Build a Mars City State.
For a less time-consuming space-related project, check out some of the many citizen science opportunities including Become a Muon Hunter, Become a Galaxy Hunter and Find Planet 9.
HOT TIP: Group projects, including ones you do in the classroom, can be a fantastic way to develop skills and advance academic experiences. Keep in mind that you should also supplement and/or expand your group work with related or unrelated solo projects so that it’s clear that you are great at operating both as a collective and as an individual.
