Math ExpLR at UC Irvine

If you are a math standout and want to add some major WOW to your resume, consider the Math ExpLR summer internship at UC-Irvine. In this unique 5-week program, high school students are paired with undergrads and work (with the oversight of a principal investigator to create a computational biology research project). You’ll develop math modeling skills and also learn about some of the many practical applications of math in a lab. This is the future of science, and a great window into the world of applied math. It’s not just college training, it’s job training!

“The NSF-Simons Center for Multiscale Cell Fate Research at UC Irvine invites High School students to participate in Math ExpLR, a summer research program in mathematical biology taking place from 06/20/2022 to 07/29/2022.

Participation in Math ExpLR will provide a window into mathematical research and university studies.

High School students will be paired up with undergraduates and work with a PI on a computational biology research project.  In addition, there will be weekly activities in skills development, including how to give presentations, how to write math in the computer, Matlab basics, and principles of Mathematical Modeling. By the end of the project each team will give a presentation about their research and submit an expository paper describing their work.”
