The Diamond Challenge

The Diamond Challenge is an international entrepreneurship incubator and competition run by the University of Delaware. It includes an online curriculum that helps students who don’t otherwise have experience in the area create a viable business report and pitch deck. Teams develop their entrepreneurial idea in the categories of Business Concept or Social Innovation and then deliver their pitches either virtually or at a live event. Top finishers receive cash prizes and the opportunity to network with seasoned entrepreneurs and innovators.

“The Diamond Challenge was created through Horn Entrepreneurship, a cornerstone for entrepreneurial activity based at the University of Delaware. Because of the generous contributions made by Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, we are able to provide high school students around the world with opportunities to experience entrepreneurship first hand. We empower students in high school and beyond through entrepreneurial education and enrichment opportunities in order for students to create, capture, and deliver value from new ideas, regardless of their future career path.”

Award(s): up to $100K in the form of prize money, scholarships, and/or venture funding

How do I expand this narrative arc?  Check out some of the other entrepreneurship ideas we have found for you by searching our database under “Business and Entrepreneurship”. You should think about how you can broaden or deepen your narrative arc, including with one of the following:

  • Spend your next summer in a pure entrepreneurship program like LaunchX or Quarter Zero

  • Have a look at Wharton’s Management and Technology summer program.

  • If you are interested in the intersection between sustainability and entrepreneurship, consider Sustainable Summer, which includes a program at Dartmouth at which students develop commercial solutions to climate change problems.

  • Put your ideas into action when you launch a business in your own community.

  • The Knowledge Society runs year round programs in a number of cities across the country. Find out if there’s a cohort near you.

HOT TIP: Entrepreneurship is hot these days, especially if you can use your idea to address a need or bring about an improvement in your home community. There are lots of resources online and through the competitions and programs above (among others). This is a great time to be a teen with big ideas.
