STEM Fellowship Competitions

The STEM Fellowship Competitions are a series of challenges posted to high school students around the world. They often include cash prizes and were established to both promote scientific research in high school students and showcase the world of young scientists. The competitions are run out of Canada but attract applicants from dozens of countries. If you are seriously interested in science research (and in being acknowledged for your work), this could be a great resource for you.

“The challenge provides high school students (grades 10-12 or equivalent) around the world with an opportunity to showcase their scientific writing and obtain valuable feedback on their work. Students are encouraged to submit scholarly papers ranging in format from original research manuscripts to literature reviews. The challenge aims to prepare high school students interested in STEM for the world of research and science publishing.”

HOT TIP: Publication in a serious, carefully vetted journal is a major boost to your admissions prospects. Even more important, it’s a great way to connect with other young and more experienced scientists, and to learn about the world of science and publishing (which is often the main avenue for garnering research dollars). If you are committed to a life of science research, this is a wonderful gateway for you.
